We invite you to complete our online parent survey, known as the Hanover Survey. With this survey, we hope to learn more about your experiences and your child(ren’s) experiences at school during this school year with teachers, administrators, students, and other District staff. All responses are anonymous and will never be connected to you - your answers will be kept strictly confidential. Reporting will rely on grouped percentages only. If both parents/guardians in a household would like to take the survey, that is fine. However, we ask that each adult only take the survey once, and please do so by May 12, 2017. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the survey, please contact the District's Research, Evaluation, and Instruction Department at (619) 425-9600, ext. 1326. All students will need to wear a colonial costume on Colonial Day. All costumes can be made inexpensively from clothing you have at home.
Colonial Day is Thursday , November 10th, 2016
When? Friday, November 10th from 8:45 AM - 1:55 PM Who? All 5th grade students, teachers and parent volunteers. What? A “Bringing History to Life” event. Teachers and students will assume the roles of colonists or natives from 1700’s complete with a colonial name (which will be assigned in class). Please check out the “Colonial Willamsburg” site http://www.history.org/kids/ Students need to memorize “Do Your Best” poem. Copies will be given in class. Why? A culminating event to our Colonization of America unit in Social Studies. How? Kids will dress in costumes. Colonial Costumes Ideas: Please don’t feel that you need to BUY anything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_OOjFR5A4A Lunch: Students need to bring an authentic, homemade lunch: If your assignment is to recreate Colonial American packed lunch, you have several delicious period-correct choices: Hard boiled eggs, ham (roast beef, turkey, chicken) sandwiches on crusty white or brown bread (mayo & mustard both okay), cornbread, biscuits, muffins or hard crackers with fruit jam/jelly, pickles (sweet gherkins, bread & butter, NOT Kosher dill), fresh vegetables in season, dried fruit (raisins, apples, figs), fresh fruit (in season, oranges okay) or fruit leather, pie slice (apple, peach, cherry, pumpkin), cake (pound, spice, short), gingerbread (cookies or cake okay), cider (apple juice okay substitute), lemonade, or milk. NO peanut butter (“invented” in the 1890s), chocolate pudding, or jell-o. Authentic packaging? Use a little basket or wooden box. Wrap the foods in clean cloth (napkins okay). No paper, plastic. Good luck! Students need to bring a “gift” for the teacher (this was the teacher’s only salary). Gifts can include: baked goods (no wrappers), jam, tea, butter, candles, etc. Wednesday, October 5- PTA Online Sales of Husky Howl Tickets
